The date and location of the 2013 Jean Pictet Competition in International Humanitarian Law was recently published in the CCJP Website.
This year's competition will take place between the 2-9 of March, in Comsaed River Kwai Resort, Thailand.
(*The admission to the Pictet Competition is a separate process from that of the National Competition. For more information please refer to the CCJP Website above).
Please find below Gilad Noam and Roi Ariav's presentations on POWs and combatants, and means and methods.
The following attachment contains several relevant background materials for Adv. Roi Ariav's Means and Methods lecture at Bar-Ilan. Please bring them with you as they will come in handy.
Yael Ronen's presentation on the relationship between IHL and IHRL from the previous meeting, for your convenience.
The second meeting of the summer course will take place at the Hebrew University Law Faculty building, in Room 365 (near the Law Library).
The meeting begins at 10:00.

The speakers at the first meeting of the summer course will be:
Efrat Bergman Sapir, of the ICRC legal department, who will give a general explanation about the competition and its format this year, and also discuss classification of armed conflicts.
Yuval Nevo, from the ICRC communications office, who will speak about the ICRC delegation's work in Israel and the Occupied Territories.
Gabriela Kuenzler, deputy protection coordinator, who will speak about the ICRC activities in detention centers in Israel and will give the teams some pointers about role playing in the competition, drawing from her own work experience.

The full schedule of the Alma IHL Summer Course is as follows:
Sun., Sept. 9th, 16:00-20:00, at the IDC (room C110, Arazi-Ofer Building, 2nd floor).
Representatives from the ICRC will discuss the competition, classification of armed conflicts and the roles of the ICRC. The ICRC will also be handing out relevant materials for the competition to all the teams.
Thurs., Sept. 20th, 10:00-13:00, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Faculty of Law Building, Mt. Scopus Campus, Room 119).
Adv. Sivan Shlomo will discuss the Law of Occupation, and Dr. Yael Ronen will discuss the relationship between IHL and International Human Rights Law.
Mon., Sept. 24th, 16:30-20:30, at Bar Ilan University (Law Faculty Building 306, Room 110).
Adv. Roi Ariav will discuss means and methods of warfare, Adv. Gilad Noam will discuss combatant status and related issues, and Adv. Ady Niv will discuss targeting and proportionality.

The first meeting of the Alma Summer Course on IHL will take place on Sunday, Sept. 9, between 16:00 and 20:00. The meeting will be at the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya, in room C110 (Arazi-Ofer Building, 2nd floor).
In this meeting, a representative from the ICRC delegation will give you more details and explanations about the competition, as well as a lecture about the roles of the Red Cross and Classification of Armed Conflicts. This is also a great opportunity to meet your fellow participants from the other academic institutions.

This is the recommended bibliography for the competition. Please pay close attention to the case-law and to the basic texts (How does law protect in war?; Customary IHL study) as well as to the basic textbooks referenced. Please be advised that this bibliography is not an exhaustive list of all the sources you might need in order to prepare.
