Summer Course - Last Session

We are pleased to announce that the tenth and last session of this year's IHL Summer Course on Legal Advice during Hostilities - will take place on October 7, between 18:00-19:30 via zoom. 


Our lecturer will be Col.(res) Liron A. Libman, Advocate.

Liron Libman served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) as Chief Military Prosecutor and Head of the International Law Department. Following Operation Cast Lead and the Goldstone Report, Libman participated in the international legal campaign about the potential ramifications of these developments. Libman took part both in legal advice in advance, and in presenting the Israeli case following, the Marmara Affair (Gaza Flotilla) before the Israeli public commission (the Turkel commission) and international fora. Libman has a master’s degree in law from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and is a graduate of the IDF's Commander and General Staff College.

Summer Course - Ninth Session

We are pleased to announce that the ninth session of this year's IHL Summer Course on International Criminal Law - will take place on September 24, between 18:00-20:30 via zoom. 

Our lecturer will be Adv. Hila Zur from the International Law unit at the Counseling and Legislation department in the Ministry of Justice.

Summer Course - Eight Session

The eight of this year’s IHL Summer course on Laws of Occupation will take place on September 17, between 19:00-20:30.

Our lecturer will be Adv. Tom Gal.

Adv. Gal specializes in humanitarian law, human rights and international criminal law, and in the application of humanitarian law and human rights in the commercial and private sectors. Adv. Gal possesses significant experience in legal consultancy, legal research and litigation, as well as in representing international organizations, NGOs and other agencies. She is often called upon to provide counsel regarding UN Geneva based agencies and international criminal procedure.

Over the years, Adv. Gal served as the representative of various organizations before the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) and the United Nations Human Rights Council, including the World Jewish Congress, the International Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists and the Public Interest Advocacy Center. She was also a researcher and lecturer at the Geneva Academy for Humanitarian Law and Human Rights and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy. Starting next week, she will be joining the international departmet at the Counseling and Legislation unit in the State Attorney's Office. 

Adv. Gal is currently studying for a PhD at the Law Faculty of the University of Geneva.

Summer Course - Seventh Session

The Seventh Session on Terror and Counter-Terror of this year’s IHL Summer Course is rescheduled to take pace on Sunday, September 13 between 19:30-21:00.

Our lecturer will be Dr. Myriam Feinberg.

Dr. Myriam Feinberg is a lecturer in international law. She was previously a postdoc with the Minerva Center for the Rule of Law under Extreme Conditions at the University of Haifa and with the Global Trust Project at Tel Aviv University. Her research areas include counterterrorism, cyber terrorism, international criminal law and national security. Myriam holds a Licence de droit from Université Panthéon-Assas in Paris, an LL.M. in international law from Trinity College Dublin and a PhD from the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies in London. Her publications include her monograph, ‘Sovereignty in the Age of Global Terrorism: The Role of International Organisations’, Brill 2016.

Summer Course - Sessions Sixth through Eighth

We are pleased to announce that sessions sixth through eighth of this year's IHL Summer Course will take place via zoom as follows:
  • The Sixth Session on Displacement will take place on September 3, between 18:30-20. Our lecturer will be Mr Itay Epshtain.
  • The Seventh Session on Terror and Counter-Terror will take place on September 13, between 19:00-20:30. Our lecturer will be Dr. Myriam Feinberg.
  • The Eighth Session on Law of Occupation will take place on September 17, between 19:00-20:30. Our lecturer will be Adv. Tom Gal.

Summer Course - Fifth Session

The fifth session of this year's IHL Summer Course on Human Rights Law - will take place on Thursday August  27 between 15:00-18:00via zoom.

Our lecturer will be Prof. Gloria Gaggioli, the Director of the 
Geneva Academy Of International Humanitarian Law And Human Rights.

Gloria Gaggioli is the Director of the Geneva Academy since August 2020 and an Associate/ Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) Professor at the Law Faculty of the University of Geneva. She is also member of the board of Geneva Call since August 2019. She has published widely in various fields of public international law and participates regularly in international conferences. Her work focuses notably on issues related to the interplay between international humanitarian law and international human rights law, the right to life and the use of force, including the conduct of hostilities, law enforcement and self-defence.

Prior to joining the University of Geneva, she served as Legal Adviser in the legal division of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and is the author of the ICRC report The Use of Force in Armed Conflicts: Interplay between the Conduct of Hostilities and Law Enforcement Paradigms.

Summer Course - Fourth Session

We are pleased to announce that the fourth session of this year's IHL Summer Course on Targeting - will take place on August 9, between 19:00-20:30 via zoom.

Our lecturer will be Adv. Ady Niv.

Ady Niv worked as a legal officer at the Appeals and Trial Chambers of the United Nations’ Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals, International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, and most recently as a Senior Legal Officer at the UN International Commission of Inquiry for Mali.
Niv also held the position of Judicial Cooperation Advisor at Eurojust and attorney in the Department of Special International Affairs at Israel’s Ministry of Justice and, beforehand, served at the Military Advocate General's Corps, first as a Legal Officer at the International Law Department, and subsequently as a Military Prosecutor and Deputy to the Head of Judea Prosecution.

Summer Course - Third Session

We are pleased to announce that the third session of this year's IHL Summer Course on Means and Methods of Warfare - will take place on August 2, between 18:30-21:00 via zoom. 

Our lecturer will be MAJ Izhar Izhaki, Head of the International Law & Commanders Training Section - IDF School of Military Law.

14th National IHL Competition -‎ Summer Course

We are pleased to announce that the first session of this year's IHL Summer Course will take place on July 23, between 15:00-17:00 via zoom. A link to the session will be provided shortly before.

The session's schedule is as follows:

15:30- 17:00- introduction to IHL (basic principles) – Adv. Ido Rosenzweig

The Competition is organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) with the assistance of ALMA – the Association for the Promotion of International Humanitarian Law in Israel.
